Artwork Outside the Gallery is a photographic archive developed through walking and everyday observation between 2022 and 2025. Moving through cities and rural landscapes across Eurasia and the Americas, Koleso collected accidental arrangements, abandoned structures, objects, traces, and local situations that visually recalled artistic gestures while existing outside, and sometimes far away from institutional art spaces.

The project approaches public space as a site of continuous, informal artistic production and asks what makes an object or situation recognisable as an artwork in the first place. Rather than attempting to classify these encounters, the publication brings them together through a subjective editorial framework, shifting attention from the production of artworks towards the act of recognising, collecting, and contextualising what is already there.

Published by Stolen Books, the project was launched through a printing performance in which one copy of the book was produced live inside the gallery. The amplified mechanical sounds of the printer were mixed with field recordings collected during the same walks, using the production of the publication as a way of bringing the collected material from public space into the gallery.
